Sennheiser
is far more than a headphone company. The sales of headphone is
less than one half of the company's turnover. The market leader
in terms of headphones is also producing micophones and wireless
conference systems as well a a huge variety of related products
ans systems. Some years ago the world famous microphone manufacturer
Neumann in Berlin was aquired and the loudspeaker manufactuer
K+H is also part of the Sennheiser portfolio.
 One
of the bigger news in headphone audio had been the release of
the Sennheiser
PXC 450 noise cancelling headphone which gives superior outside
isolation.
The technology used here is also in use for top level aviation
products. It is really very comfortable to use a noise cancelling
headphone in a train or during a flight. The main effect is of
course that in this case you don't suffer that much from the outside
 noise
if you can turn this noise down by means of active electronics.
The other effect is that you don't have to turn up the volume
that and still get all the details of the music. This lets your
ears suffer much les from the noise and from the SPL caused by
the headphone itself. If you care for your ears, just have a look
at the Hearsafe booth.
The
picture on the left shows the Sennheiser
HD280pro. This is a closed type headphone for professional applications
which also excels in noisy environments by means of passive noise
blocking.
