Pro Light & Sound 2008 - Beyerdynamic Norbert Ibrom and Headzone

The first thing Norbert Ibrom of Beyerdynamic let me know was that their highly awarded headzone system is now available in three different versions: a consumer version for home audio, a professional version and a special version for broadcast.

Headzone allows the listener to use a normal stereo headphone and yet experience a full feature 5.1 sound presentation. The headphone itself has to be equipped with a tracking antenna so that the headtracking computer can calculate the presentation according to the listener's exact head position. This means that the soundstage itself will remain stable although the listener moves his/her head. This is a very loudspeaker-like and natural experience. Norbert Ibrom is now also very happy with the stability of the headtracking.

As the Frankfurt Music Fair is about making music there was also a microphone test station where pople could speak or sing into a microphone of their choice and listen through different Beyerdynamic headphones.

There was also that famous caraoke station installed again but the fun there was in most cases mainly for those who performed and less for those who listened...

Beyerdynamic presented their professional product in a blue surrounding. So far I had only seen the orange displayas but they had been for the consumer products during the IFA in Berlin and High End in Munich.

On the right you see an absolute classic product. The DT100 has been in production practically unchanged since five decades! It still finds its customers mainly in the broadcast area.
