As
some people may be aware Lehmannaudio has built a reputation
on building phono stages with a very good price to value ratio. It
would have been impossible to attend a headfi meeting without showing
an analog setup.
Fortunately enough Ulla Scheu of Scheu
Analog was so kind to supply a "Cello" turntable which
is the company's entry level product but has received great reviews
in several magazines and a loyal customer followership.
The Scheu Cello was equipped with a Rega RB250 and an Empire MM cartridge.
The original Rega armweight had been replaced by a Scheu brass weight
that can be fixed into position with a hex screw.
The signal was fed into a Black Cube Decade phono stage and finally
to a Black Cube Linear headphone amplifier. All cabling of this setup
was standard including the power cords. The Cello and the audio section
of the Black Cube Decade were placed on an IKEA Lack table. This was
done not for audiophile reasons but simply to protect the turntable
and to easily access the switches of the Decade.
I brought some records with me among them "Manciny Dry"
performed by the Salvagnini Quartet and recorded in 2002 with tube
mics and tubed equipmet directly and live to a 76cm/s stereo analog
master tape (Useless to try and get it - Already sold out!) and "Grey"
the only LP published by Quinton
Records (an audiophile label from Austria otherwise publishing
digitally) with Wolfgang Puschnig, Steve Swallow, Don Alias and Victor
Lewis.
